Poetry Prompt: Knitting

knitting
“I could say much to you If you could understand me”. -Lucille Clifton

As I knit these words together

I hope they serve you better

My ear and your words are like needle and thread

How two become one as they wed

Weaving and sewing this beautiful tapestry

Uncovering stolen ancestry

Magnificent patchwork

Mending the hurt

Unraveling the evils spoken over us at birth

I’ll match your worth

What on earth

Did we just birth

Running stitch and handknit

We’ve got gold in this toolkit

Come to close to quit

 Labeled a misfit

Equipped with wit

Our grandmothers prayed for this

Turning pain into honey and chaos into bliss

So we’ll teach our daughters to knit
