Poem: True Colors

You push people away

Then wonder why they did not stay

Even in the mirror you aren’t face to face

With yourself because you live in space

Where everything is and nothing isn’t

Locked inside a self inflicted prison

There are many layers to everything

Even when you think you see all that can be seen

Taking advice from distrustful people

Their words are often lethal

Unable to see that they too aren’t free

Is this who you hope to be

Dying to clapback and inflict misery

Swallowed up by trickery

I carry this torch to fight

Show you that your light was once bright

Choke out fears

Encourage your tears

Gone are the days you live in a maze

Pissed off from being pissed on is a choice and often a phase

Love and light is the phrase

To see through the haze

So the next time you isolate yourself

Remember it’s a slow death

Take a breath

This too shall pass

I see through the looking glass

Take my hand

Lean on me if you can’t stand

You were mean’t for a beautiful life

To put an end to internal strife

You are worth the fight

Sing your song and shed light

Be a walking scripture

Using your calling to paint this same picture

I see your true colors

Know that you are different from others

Different isn’t wrong

Fitting in ain’t home
