Poetry Prompt: Don’t Hesitate

8

Today I thought about the girl I use to be

My perspective and the way I use to see

Said a prayer for all the layers

How I use to give too many cares

I removed some by choice and others by force

My back made strong carrying shame

Allowing myself to be a victim of the people-pleasing game

You won’t amount to anything they said

Those words filled me with so much dread

What if they tore down my future

Needed healing and someone who can suture

Praise going up

Blessings overflowing my cup

No one can destroy what’s already destined to be

This is the lock and the key

I was set free

No longer giving permission to speak into my life

I’ll ask you twice

Does the poison you spew ever validate you

Does the poison you spew ever validate you

What you give out comes back around

The girl I use to be has been crowned

Here’s to holding it up and down

Battle scars now stars

No longer held behind bars

Clarified my values

That’s my cue

I’ll pray for you

Forgiving the unforgivable

Is a superpower

Now is the hour

You can let go

You reap what you sow

I thought about the girl I use to be

I know she would agree

Miss me with all your I declare and decree

You don’t have to speak tactfully

Come out of the shackling

Who you’ll become will thank you

For pushing through the breakthrough

The words we speak give life or death

Hope you choose life in every breath

I choose today

To always remember that letting go is the better way
